A message from our Head-green keeper

Head-Greenkeeper's update
Course update up to 7th of June 2021
Well, the last few weeks we saw the weather show us how unpredictable it really is going from a very dry April to record rain fall in May and ending with some great warmth and sunshine . Conditions have been challenging but the course is holding up to the changes and beginning to show some recovery.
What’s been done?
Greens
• Height of cut reduced from 3.75mm to 3mm
• Regular verti cutting to help promote new growth and help removing seed heads
• Application of Wetting agent, seaweed and bio stimulants
• Solid tine to depth of 120mm with 8mm tines
• Patch and plug scars
• Application of potassium silica to help with seed head removal
• Top-dress and overseed weaker areas on 7,9 and 17
• Second treatment with the air2g2 machine helping break up the compacted subsoil
• Vibration surface rolling to help Improve trueness
Tees/aprons
• Regular mowing at 10mm
• Divoting and topdressing wear areas
• Weekly grooming with verti cut units
• Application of Wetting agent to help with moisture management
• Tidy around stones
Fairways
• Regularly mowing at 15mm
• Application of Wetting agent to help with moisture management
• Continued with selective weed killing
Rough
• Cut Regularly at 50mm
• Using tow behind blower to reduced grass clumps from excessive growth
• Selective weed killing
General
• Strimming of banks slopes and difficult to mow areas
• Applications of plant growth regulator to strummed areas to help slow growth
• Mole trapping
• Litter picking
• Edge bunkers and weed
• Tidy around course furniture
• New flags out
• Regular cleaning hole cups
• Produce plan of proposals for future improvements to be made on golf course
Our plans for the next few weeks
• Continue refinement of all surfaces with extra verti cutting on greens, tees and aprons
• Work on irrigation to improve efficiency
• Hand watering know hot spots and high areas
• Topdressing and seeding wear areas on greens and aprons
• Application of iron and selective herbicide to tee, aprons and fairways
• Continue boosting soil biology in green with the application of molasses and bio stimulants
• Tidy and paint yardage stones
• Increase use of Vibration rollers on greens and aprons to improve trueness
• Procore greens venting the surface allowing water percolation and boosting sub soil biology.
• Start divoting fairway landing areas
We need your help
If you have any spare time on the evening of Monday 28th of June from 4pm we’d love your help in divoting the fairway if you can make it bring a bucket and we’ll work around the golf course filling in as many divots as we can helping move the course forward .
Hope your all enjoying the golf course

Avon League

1st game of the Avon league was played at the Vale(Nice track but long). With non of us playing there before we did well to win 2 of our matches. Big pat on the backs for Finley Stockes/Alex piper and Phil Green/Lee Bull for winning their games. The team came away with a 4 2 loss. The battle may have been lost but the war continues at Whitefields on the 26th June where the lads can get us back to winning ways.
