Captain’s Blog – March 2019
Well, what can I say…… Where has the last 12 months gone? This is my final edition of the Captain’s blog and I hope you have enjoyed and found the blogs informative and a useful source of information?
February / March Round-Up
After a few cancellations we finally managed to get the Winter Leagues all wrapped up and can I say a massive THANK YOU to Bob Waters…… He might be the clubs worst dressed golfer, but he has done a fantastic job in arranging the fixtures and keeping us all updated with the results and league tables.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Winter Leagues and the winners are as follows;
Division 1: Richard Evans and Kevin Powers
Division 2: Martin ‘Big Daddy’ Reay and John ‘Ebenezer’ Rawlings
Division 3: Paul Crump and Dave ‘The Glove’ Mytton
Afternoon: Dave Shore and Bob Davies
The dinner dance proved to be a great success, with 129 attending and being entertained by the popular band ‘The Jents’. Once again, the meal was fantastic and overall a great time was had by all. A special thank you must go to the Lady Captain Ann Farmer for all her hard work in making sure everything went to plan, albeit from the flowers being mis-placed on the stage or should that be well hidden??
Coming up in April
As I hand over to Wayne Moore, the following reminders will hopefully ensure our new Captain’s get their year off to the best possible start…….
The AB sheet is up in the changing rooms, please leave your name and number if you would like to play in any of the matches.
Meet the Captains is scheduled for Saturday 13th April where a Texas Scramble event will be played in the afternoon, followed by evening entertainment. If you are unable to play in the Texas Scramble, then please come and support our new Captain’s in the evening.
Children’s names for the Easter Egg Hunt are now being taken, please ask behind the bar or speak to Wayne for further information.
Course Improvement Programme
Alan and the greenstaff have done an excellent job in presenting the course in a good condition following the recent wet spell and the following works programme will back up the good work already done…….. Over the last 2 weeks the greens have been spiked and scarified to alleviate moss, clear the bare patches and to assist growth. The week commencing Monday 25th March, the greens will be hollow cored and dressed, followed by overseeding in the week commencing Monday 8th April. The greens have also been preventatively sprayed for fusarium. The tees will also be spiked, dressed and overseeded.
It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to represent Atherstone Golf Club as their club captain and I would like to thank all the members for their support throughout my year!! I have had many laughs along the way and I’m taking away an abundance of fond memories, plus I’ve built up some strong friendships that will last a lifetime!!
As I hand over to Wayne, may I take this opportunity to wish our new Captains all the best for next year, I’m sure they’ll be a great success……. I hope YOU, the members have enjoyed my year in office as much as I have and thank you all for your support.
