Captain’s Blog – June 2018
Well, what can I say…… The sun has finally decided to shine, the course has dried out from the dampest winter for many years and the feel good factor is evident in and around the course and clubhouse. All that is missing is the Captain playing some good golf!!
The work on the course continues and after the hard work done by the green staff over the winter period, it was good to see the three refurbished tee’s back in play. As if the 3rd hole was not difficult enough, you soon forget how narrow the fairway looks when standing on the back medal tee!!
Collectively as a golf club we’ve started the year off well and we can now add the Avon League cup to our tally of honours! Congratulations to Nik and the team for keeping up their impressive form and winning the Avon League cup, beating Oakridge 4-2 in each game to secure an 8-4 margin.
The theme of congratulations keeps rolling on……. Well done to Dunc Clarke for his hole in one on the 16th and for picking up the jackpot of £821. He reliably informed me that he hit a solid 9 iron onto the green, rolling out to trickle into the cup, but his playing partners may have other ideas?
The quiz night was again well supported with 8 teams participating, with Gareth Leyshorn’s team of Brainiac’s taking away the title of ‘Quiz Champions’. A massive thank you must go out to Ian Jacob for all his hard work in putting together and hosting the quiz……. Fantastic job Ian!!
Congratulations to all the competition winners so far this season who have qualified for the end of season ‘Champion of Champion’s’ competition.
Trowel: John Wilson
Presidents Putter: David Walter
NSPCC: Barry Adams
Gavin Milne: Eddie Harvey and Graham Eaton
So, as May draws to a conclusion with the season now in full flow, may I take this opportunity to wish everyone good luck in the forthcoming ‘Club Championship’ which is the highlight of the golfing calendar in June……..
Coming up in June
The Men’s Invitation on Sunday 10th June is filling up fast, so if you haven’t already entered, get your entry forms filled in and submitted with the payment. Entry forms can be found on the bar with the start sheet available to view on the stage.
Following on from the Men’s Invitation is the Family fun day on Saturday 16th June, where you play as a pair with a non-golfer over 9 holes. The golfer plays onto the green and the non-golfer putts out with your combined score recorded. This is a great way to get the family involved and have a bit of fun, plus there will be a barbeque available on the day to save on the washing up!! The start sheet will be posted on the notice board on the stage.
Incorporated into the family fun day will be the Men’s and Ladies Captain’s Drive-In, where you’ll get the chance to see two very nervous captain’s try to tee off in front of a crowd and hopefully not have the embarrassment of an air shot!! You’ll also get the chance to guess the combined distance that the captain’s hit their shots, which hopefully I’ll manage to knock one past the lady captain! So please come along and support what should be a fun afternoon.
The Tripartite week is fast approaching, so if you feel like you’re in good form and wish to be considered for selection, then please enter your details on the Tripartite name sheet posted on the changing room notice board.
Payments for the Captain’s away weekend are due to be paid by the end of June, so can you please ensure that the payments are in on time. Once all the payments are made, I will put together an itinerary and provide details for the weekend.
After we announced the joint captain’s project last month, where we invited members to approach us with suggestions to enhance the first tee, well so far we have received a massive big fat zero suggestions!! Please help us out, your input is essential to make this project a success!!
Please feel free to come and speak to me or email me any suggestions with regards to the captain’s project, the course, social events or even if you wish to see a different feature in the Captain’s Blog??
