Captains Blog September 2019.
We started September with the sad news that one of our clubs finest ambassadors passed away. Ronnie Hiatt was a true gentleman on and off the course and will always be remembered as a legend on the national golf scene. May I send on behalf of AGC our condolences to all his family in this sad time and rest assured he will never be forgotten at Atherstone Golf Club.
The month started with our Men's Open Pairs competition, it was a close call for our top two pairs with Gordon Bentley and Dave Shore being beaten into second place on count back by Bob Pointer and Eddie Harvey with a credible net 62. The day was played in perfect golfing conditions on a course that was in possibly the best condition I have ever seen and set up pretty tough if I do say so myself. Thanks to everyone who was involved in making it a good day.
We also had our annual charity Texas scramble that again was superbly organised by Malcolm Clark and his wife, the day raised £2050.00 towards Cancer research. Overall winners on the day with a team score of 53.4 was Nik Sweatman, Finley Stokes, Stuart Spencer and Mick Withers, well done guys. It was also great to see Geoff Freeman back in the clubhouse once again and great to hear he's back playing golf.
